Sitting atop Himeyama Hill is the beautiful Himeji Castle. Despite being built in the early 1300’s, the castle stands tall and looks over the wonderful city of Himeji in the Hyogo prefecture.
With it’s vibrant white exterior, Himeji Castle is recognized as one of the 100 landscapes of Japan of the Heisei Era (日本百景), and is also one of Japan’s “Three Famous Castles,” along with Matsumoto Castle and Kumamoto Castle.
Even from a distance the castle looks picturesque, creating a perfect balance with the nature surrounding it.
And what a view from the top! It’s no wonder that Himeji Castle is the most visited castle in Japan!
When spring time hits, Himeji Castle is also a popular cherry blossom viewing (hanami) spot. Pack a bento and enjoy a day under the falling petals!
If you’re visiting Japan, dressing up in a kimono and spending a day out and about is always a popular activity. Why not combine that with visiting the Himeji Castle and immerse yourself into the traditional Japanese experience?
