What is Kendo? Kendo is a modern Japanese martial art that uses bamboo swords, wearing special protective armor. It is practiced by people of all ages and genders. Below is the concept of Kendo from All Japan Kendo Federation .
The concept of kendo is to discipline the human character through the application of the principles of the katana (sword).
If you want to experience it yourself while you are in Japan, there are several companies that offer classes in English like Samurai Trip.

Training is happening barefoot, no matter if it is warm months or cold, most of the time on the wooden floor. So prepare yourself for that 🙂

The emphasis is placed on etiquette and respect for one another.
Kendo is a “way of life” that successive generations can learn together. The prime objective of instructing kendo is to encourage the practitioner to discover and define their way in life through training in the techniques of kendo. Thus, the practitioner will be able to develop a rich outlook on life and be able to put the culture of kendo into use, thereby benefitting from its value in their daily lives through increased social vigour.
